mcternans was called Sean McTernan, solicitor, from 26th February 2001 until it took it's present name on 29th October 2004. Sean qualified as a solicitor in 1982 and a mediator in 2002. He is the Principal.
He worked for the Trade Unions after he qualified and was involved in the strikes and class actions of the early to mid 1980s. He learned aggressive litigation techniques [in claimant injury actions] and defence strategy [criminal work].
It was the employment experience and first libel work [mostly union leaders suing Private Eye] that lead to joining the BBC. Litigation was joined by pre-broadcast advice and training journalists and producers as the staple diet. There was a two year interlude in film distribution with UIP before a settled decade of BBC work.
Before setting up in practice and relocating to Suffolk [though he is in London at least 2 days each week], Sean was Head of Law at Carlton Television. Against that background, the focus for the current practice was evolved into the three strands now offered to clients [content, contract and mediation]. We provide training in those areas. Publications include a book Introduction to Media Law by Sean McTernan that is now available [ published by Medialex Limited, see www.medialex-uk.com or www.Amazon.co.uk ].
